    Out in Marshall & Hume Virginia the dirt roads go on forever, as do the horse farms. On a nice day it makes sense to wait at the bus stop for your kid on horseback. On a big horse you can double up for the ride home. It helps when your mount is a large gaited Spotted Saddle Horse.

  • Brighty as 2yr Old Slideshow
    Brighty is 3 yrs old now, but this is a slideshow of when she was 2yrs old. She had about 30 days under saddle when these pictures were taken. Please look for recent videos of Brighty coming soon. I think Brighty has a future in the cutting or working cow horse arena. She is quick and smart. She gets up under herself very well and moves off the leg. The first time I put her on a cow she started reading it in the first 5 min. I have not started fine tuning her on the cows. I am working on her foundation before I go back to working on cows.

  • Horse Herd Behavior when a kite is flying- Part 2 - Sacking Out - Rick Gore Horsemanship
    I only got short footage of this and made a quick part 2, but the main thing to look for in this video is how the lower insecure horses are moving, flashing and moving as one unit. When horses are circling like this, the stronger horses tend to be closer to threat and the weaker more fearful horses will be in rear and keep more distance from scary object. Stronger leaders will hold their ground and evaluate the threat and decide to flee or fight, if you see the three higher geldings they stand there and evaluate, their flight response was not triggered until the herd ran by and created a draw to suck them into the running herd. As for flying a kite off your horse I would start with something like this, then fly a kite while leading your horse on lead rope or fly by horse in small round pen and then maybe ride horse next to flying kite, then either fly and take off from you in saddle at longer distance and then make string shorter so kite will be flying closer. ALWAYS READY TO DROP KITE STRING IF THE HORSE appears to go into panic fear. This will help your horse deal with other things in the air like flags, birds, small remote aircraft, Frisbee, balls, blowing plastic bags, etc. Reading horses running like this will help develop your eye, so you can see the tails go up and get active, the ears move, the interaction between horses, lots of communication going on when horses are running like this, most just get caught up how nice it looks and forget to evaluate the <b>...</b>
