The dressage saddle is a type of English saddle designed specifically for dressage.

Dressage riders ride with a longer leg and so dressage saddles have a straight cut and longer leg flap. Dressage tests take place entirely on the flat and so there is no requirement for the rider to adopt the jumping position! The longer leg also requires a higher pommel and a specialist seat to accommodate the rider sitting slightly further forward – an inevitable consequence of the longer leg.

The seat is also deeper to allow for a smooth and comfortable ride. Essential in a successful dressage test!

Watch out too for less flocking in the seat panels to allow for greater contact with the horse.
